Kitchen Cabinet Overhaul - kitchen organizing in New Orleans by Nola Organizers

Kitchen Cabinet Overhaul

River Ridge, Jefferson Parish

The kitchen is the hardest-working room in most homes, and it shows. Cabinets fill up with gadgets used twice a year. Drawers become a mess of overlapping utensils. The counter slowly disappears under things that never got assigned a home. And every time you cook, you spend a few minutes hunting before you can actually start.

Kitchen disorganization almost always comes from one of three things: too much stuff for the available storage, storage that was never organized by use, or a layout that does not match how you actually cook. Usually it is a combination of all three. We fix all three.

The team at Nola Organizers has worked in kitchens across Greater New Orleans — cramped galley kitchens in Mid-City, large open-plan kitchens in Metairie, and everything in between. We know how to make a kitchen work for the person cooking in it, regardless of how much or how little storage space it has.

Kitchen Areas We Organize

Every zone in the kitchen gets its own system based on how you actually use it.

Cabinets and Upper Storage

Upper cabinets are where things go to disappear. Rarely used items push daily ones to the back. We reorganize every cabinet by frequency of use — what you reach for every day lives at eye level, what you use occasionally lives higher up, and what you never use gets reconsidered entirely.

Drawers

A kitchen drawer with no system turns into a junk drawer within weeks. We sort every drawer by function, use dividers where they help, and make sure the contents match what you actually do in the kitchen. Utensils, tools, and gadgets each get a logical home.

Pantry Cabinets and Shelving

If your pantry is part of the kitchen rather than a separate space, we organize it as part of the kitchen session. Food categories get grouped, expired items get cleared, and everything is stored in a way that makes cooking and grocery restocking easier. For walk-in pantries, see our dedicated pantry organization services.

Under-Sink Storage

Under the kitchen sink is notoriously messy — cleaning supplies, extra bags, random items that had nowhere else to go. We sort through it, remove what does not belong, and set up a functional system that makes everything accessible without a pile falling out every time you open the door.

Countertop Organization

Countertop clutter is usually a storage symptom, not a behavior problem. When cabinets and drawers are overstuffed, things end up on the counter because there is nowhere to put them. Once we fix the storage, the counters clear naturally. We also help you decide what genuinely earns counter space.

Spice and Baking Organization

Spices are one of the most consistently disorganized parts of any kitchen. We sort by use and type, remove duplicates and expired jars, and set up a system — drawer, shelf, or rack — that makes finding the right spice fast. Same approach for baking supplies, which tend to scatter across multiple cabinets.

Pots, Pans, and Lids

Pots, pans, and their lids are bulky and awkward to store. We figure out which pieces you actually cook with, find a storage solution that keeps them accessible without a cabinet avalanche, and deal with the extras that are taking up space but never getting used.

How It Works

Our Kitchen Organizing Process

01

Kitchen Walkthrough and Planning

We start by understanding how you cook. Daily meals, meal prep habits, what you cook most, what appliances actually get used, and where the friction points are. That context shapes every decision we make about where things should live.

02

Full Clear-Out and Edit

We pull everything out of cabinets, drawers, and storage areas so we can see exactly what is there. Duplicates, expired food, items that belong elsewhere, and things you simply no longer use all get identified and dealt with before anything goes back in.

03

Organizing by Zone and Frequency

We put everything back based on where it makes the most sense to use it. Cooking zones, prep zones, and storage zones get assigned based on your kitchen layout and how you move around the space. The most-used items are always within easiest reach.

04

Labels and Final Touches

We add labels and containers where they help maintain the system. By the end of the session your kitchen has a logic that every member of the household can follow, which means it stays organized without requiring daily maintenance effort.

Day of Service

What to Expect on Kitchen Organizing Day

Kitchen sessions are involved because we are working with a lot of categories in a high-traffic space. We come prepared with a plan built from our consultation, and any products or organizers needed have already been identified so there is no time spent shopping on the day of the session.

The process involves pulling everything out, which means the kitchen will look more chaotic before it looks better. That is normal and part of how the work gets done correctly. By the end of the session every cabinet, drawer, and storage area is reorganized and functional.

We handle the disposal of anything you decide to clear out — expired food, duplicate gadgets, items for donation. The kitchen is completely usable when we leave. Not mid-project, not almost done. Done.

Why Work With Us

What Makes Our Kitchen Sessions Different

We Organize Around Your Cooking Habits

A kitchen system designed for someone who meal preps on Sundays looks different from one designed for someone who mostly reheats. We build around how you actually cook, not a generic idea of what an organized kitchen looks like.

Everything Gets Evaluated, Not Just Sorted

We do not just put things back in a neater arrangement. We question what earns space in your kitchen. Rarely used appliances, duplicate tools, and items that belong elsewhere get addressed so the final system is not built on stuff that does not need to be there.

Product Sourcing Included

If your kitchen would benefit from drawer dividers, shelf risers, or specific containers, we identify exactly what is needed and handle the sourcing. You do not have to spend time shopping or guessing what will fit.

We Work in Small and Large Kitchens Equally Well

Some of the most satisfying kitchen sessions we have done were in tight galley kitchens with almost no storage. Limited space requires a precise system. We know how to build one regardless of how little square footage you are working with.

Pantry Coordination Available

If your kitchen session surfaces pantry issues, we can expand the scope or schedule pantry work separately. The kitchen and pantry work best when they are organized together as a connected system.

Zero Judgment on What We Find

We have found expired food from three administrations ago, duplicate gadgets for gadgets no one remembers buying, and entire cabinets no one had opened in years. None of it changes how we show up or how we treat you.

Common Questions

Kitchen Organizing Questions Answered

Do I need to empty my cabinets before the session?
No. We pull everything out as part of the process. Arriving with your kitchen exactly as it is gives us the best picture of what is actually happening in the space and what the real problems are.
What do you do with expired food?
We identify and remove expired pantry items and spices as part of the session. You confirm what goes and what stays, and we handle the disposal. Starting with a clear baseline makes the organizing work much more effective.
How long does a kitchen organizing session take?
A kitchen session typically runs five to five and a half hours. Larger kitchens with significant accumulation may require a follow-up session. We are honest about what is realistic after the consultation so there are no surprises.
Do you bring bins and organizers?
We can source and bring recommended products as part of the session. During the consultation we identify what would genuinely help in your kitchen, give you options at different price points, and handle the ordering or pickup so everything is ready for organizing day.
Can you help with a small kitchen that has very limited storage?
Yes, and small kitchens are often where the most impactful changes happen. When storage is limited, the strategy is about maximizing every inch and being ruthless about what actually earns space in the kitchen. We have worked in plenty of small New Orleans kitchens and know how to make them function well.
Will the pantry be included in a kitchen session?
If your pantry is a cabinet or small shelving unit within the kitchen, yes — it gets organized as part of the same session. If it is a walk-in or larger separate pantry space, we would typically schedule that as its own session or a combined session with dedicated time for each area.
