Organizing a Custom Closet in Metairie
Our Metairie client wanted help sorting through her wardrobe and making her custom closet work for everything she wanted to keep.
She had clothing she no longer needed and had recently purchased new pieces, many still with tags. With no room left in the closet, clothing and other belongings had collected on the bed, a chair, and around the bedroom. To put those items away, we first needed to make space inside the closet.
Before: The Closet Was Full
The custom closet already had hanging space and shelves, but the client had more clothing than she wanted to keep. Some items were left on the floor and in the walkway. Simply moving the bedroom piles into the closet would not solve the problem.
Our organizer began by working with the client to review what was there and decide what should remain.
Why the Bedroom Needed Attention Too
New clothes and other belongings were waiting on the bed and chair because there was nowhere to put them. The photos show how the closet's limited available space affected the rest of the room.
Clearing the bedroom depended on making room in the closet first. That gave the session a clear order: decide what to let go, reorganize what stayed, then bring in the items waiting outside.
Step 1 Make Decisions Together
Our organizer worked alongside the client as she decided what to keep, donate, or throw away. We brought boxes and trash bags to help separate what she no longer wanted from the clothing she would keep.
The client made the decisions about her belongings; our organizer provided hands-on help working through them. The bags and containers pictured were set aside during the decluttering process.
Step 2 Reorganize What Stayed
Once the client had finished making decisions, the organizer reworked the closet. She put away the clothing being kept, brought in the new clothes and other belongings from the bedroom, and arranged them so everything had a place.
The finished closet has open floor space, clothing on the rails, and shoes and other belongings arranged on the shelves. The client no longer had to use her bed and chair as overflow storage.
The Bedroom, After
The work did not stop at the closet door. With the clothing put away, the bed, chair, and floor were clear again. In one five-hour session with one organizer, both the closet and the bedroom were ready for the client to use comfortably.
Our client told us the closet looked and felt much better. She also had her bedroom back, without the piles that had been taking up space.
What Changed

Clothing that had been waiting in the bedroom was brought into the closet.
The bed, chair, and floor were clear by the end of the session.
